Polycom IP Phone to Allworx PBX Configuration

Most Polycom IP Phones work right out-of-the box on Allworx systems with minimal configuration.  The following asumes the phones have a valid and working Sip.Id and Bootrom already loaded into flash.  Newer phones, such as IP331 and IP6000 units arrive this way from the factory.  Older phones may need an intermediary update to the latest SIP application and bootrom, particularly older IP500 and IP600 phones.

1.)  Connect the phone to the network and power it up.

2.)  Interrupt the boot process and configure the phone's network settings.  DHCP from the Allworx is ideal. (NOTE: the Allworx does not currently provide config files to non-allworx phones, even though the platform has the capabiity.  Allworx has, for reason of their own, deprecated this capability in newer firmware releases.)

3.)  Reboot the Phone.

4.)  Configure a new generic SIP handset in the Allworx system.  Be sure to refresh the handset after creation and verify the user name, login ID, and password.

5.)  Navigate to the phone's IP address in a web browser and configure the phone's SIP settings.  Default username is Polycom and password is 456. DO NOT alter the local settings unless you know exactly what you are doing or are prepared to learn the hard way:

7.)  Once the phone has loaded, navigate to Menu>Settings>Advanced (password 456 is default)>Admin Settings>SIP Configuration.  Verify the info shown on the handset.

8.)  Navigate to Menu>Settings>Advanced (password 456 is default)>Admin Settings>SIP Configuration>Line 1>Auth User ID:> and verify that this field is correct.  Correct if necessary (this field often does not properly configure and remains blank.  You will know this has occurred if the phone cannot make or receive calls and the SIP messages from the PBX are tossing a"SIP/2.0 407 Proxy Authentication Required" error.
9.)  Once this is all complete, reboot the phone one last time and verify connectivity.

Finished!
